About the Author: Alexis Abramson
ALEXIS ABRAMSON is often cited as America’s leading, impassioned champion for the dignity and independence of those over 60. Alexis Abramson is an inspiring speaker, corporate consultant, successful author and award-winning entrepreneur. Her message of respect for elders, and solutions for barrier-free and independent living in later years, have been featured in many national publications including TIME, Forbes, Wall Street Journal and People magazines.

In addition to many other media outlets, Abramson is a regular on-air expert gerontologist for NBC’s Today show and Weekend Today, roles she has filled since 1997. She is also highly sought after as a keynote speaker at conferences, bringing awareness of senior issues to corporations, consumers, government agencies and nonprofit groups. As a consultant to industry, she is called upon to help make products and services senior-friendly, and employees more sensitive to the needs of mature Americans. She has acted on behalf of older Americans before such organizations as the American Association of Retired Persons, the Arthritis Foundation, Duracell, and Century 21, among many others. 

In addition to the Caregivers Survival Handbook, Abramson is also the author of Home Safety for Seniors, a room-by-room reference and idea-book for making independent senior, and home-bound, living easier.

As Founder, Chairman and CEO of Mature Mart™, Abramson led the way in identifying and making widely available products and services uniquely benefiting seniors. Beginning in 1995, the Mature Mart™ catalog and Internet presence became an ingenious mature marketplace, offering life-enhancing items—from magnifying lenses to playing card holders for arthritic hands.  Her life-affirming business, which recently merged with one of its distributors, garnered Abramson the Working Woman Magazine General Entrepreneurial Excellence Award, Atlanta Small Business of Year, 40 Under 40 Award and the American Society of Aging Outstanding Small Business Award.

Abramson holds a Master’s Degree in Gerontology and is currently residing in Los Angeles where she is pursuing her doctorate in Gerontology at the University of Southern California, the country's premier school of Gerontology.
